Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the car and support it on axle stands. Remove the appropriate front wheel and fit a brake hose clamp to the flexible hose leading to the brake calliper, or alternatively, remove the brake fluid reservoir filler cap and tighten it down onto a piece of polythene sheeting placed over the reservoir filler hole to reduce fluid loss during the procedure. Loosen the hydraulic hose union without unscrewing it at this stage. For the Teves calliper, prise the caps from the guide pins and unscrew the pins with an Allen key. For the Girling calliper, hold each guide pin in turn with an open-ended spanner and unscrew the securing bolts. Lift away the calliper and unscrew it from the hydraulic hose, plugging the end of the hose. If necessary, unbolt the calliper bracket frame from the wheel bearing housing. Refitting is a reversal of removal, ensuring all mating faces are clean and tightening the bolts to the specified torques, along with securely tightening the hydraulic hose union. Before refitting the calliper bracket bolts, clean the special serrations on the bolts, and finally bleed the hydraulic system; if the loss of hydraulic fluid has been minimal, it may be sufficient to bleed just the one calliper.
