Warm up each piston in hot water, then put the connecting rod in and drive the pin in till it snaps to the middle, making sure that the castings of the connecting rod and the arrow of the piston crown are in alignment, and replace the circlips. Prior to installing piston rings, verify the gap of each piston ring in the appropriate cylinder bore with a piston to compress the ring down, and then measure the gap between the ends of the ring with feeler gauges to have it within the required limits. In case of a narrow gap, simply file the piston ring end until adequate. In installing piston rings, the word TOP should be printed on one end, and it should fit towards the piston crown, the outer recessive surface on the outer ring being turned to the gudgeon pin. With the exception of nearly new bearing shells, new ones should be used in reassembling, cleaning the connecting rods and bearing caps, and fitting the bearing shells in such a manner that the tang will come in the recess and the end clear of the joint face. Spread the joints in the piston rings at 120°, oil the rings and grooves with a lot of force, and use a piston ring compressor to install the pistons, since otherwise, a breakage of the ring with such force is likely to occur. Apply oil on to the cylinder bores and place the pistons with the arrow on the piston crown facing the engine front (so that the appropriate crank pin is at its farthest end of the cylinder). By the time the piston is at the point of contact with the top of the bore, the two bearing halves and the crankshaft journal should be oiled, and the connecting rod half-bearing should take the crankpin. Assemble the big-end bearing cap having the shell and screw the nuts/bolts to the required torque level. Turn the crankshaft to be sure that everything is free and then install the next piston and connecting rod. Check the endplay between the machined face of both big-end bearings and the crankshaft web using feeler gauges, making sure that this is not more than the maximum value given. Fit oil pump,
Timing Belt and cylinder head.
