Every 15,000 km (10,000 miles), the alternator drivebelt should be checked for condition and re-tensioned, and if there are signs of cracking or deterioration, it should be renewed. To remove the drivebelt, loosen the adjustment nuts or bolts and swivel the alternator toward the engine, and if necessary, loosen the pivot bolt. Slip the drivebelt from the pulleys; on models fitted with air conditioning or power steering, it will be necessary to remove those drivebelts first to access the alternator drivebelt. Fit the new drivebelt over the pulleys, then lever the alternator from the engine until the specified tension is achieved using firm thumb pressure mid-way between the pulleys, ensuring to lever at the pulley end to prevent any torsional damage. Afterward, tighten the adjustment nuts or bolts followed by the pivot bolts. Finally, run the engine for several minutes, then recheck the tension and adjust if necessary.
