Whenever the roadwheels are taken off, clean the insides, and remove any rust, and repaint them, where necessary. Concurrently, clear any flints or stones caught in the tyres and inspect the tyres to ensure there are no rips or cracks and when the tread goes almost to the legal minimum change them. The rebalancing of the wheels should come mid-way through the life of the tyres to even out the loss of rubber. Always check and make sure the tyre pressures are fine, always make sure that the dust caps are in place, and do not forget to check on the spare tyre. It should be noted that the length of the wheel bolts of steel rims is shorter than those of light alloy rims and therefore the appropriate length of the bolts should be used; long bolts with steel rims may result into them sticking out of the rear brakes and damaging them, whereas short bolts with light alloy rims may lead to loose wheels.
