When taking the cables away, never disconnect the negative terminal first as that will short the battery. Untrace and un-connect old cables, keeping records of how they are to be laid. Clean connector, apply corrosion inhibitor and firmly screw new cables in place, connecting the positive terminus first, follow by the negative one.
