1995 Audi 90 Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace the front and rear Crankshaft Seals for Five-cylinder engines on 1995 Audi 90?
A: Timing belt and crankshaft gear must first be removed in order to replace the front oil seal. In case an extractor tool is present, the seal may be changed without taking away the oil pump, it is recommended that one uses Audi tool 2080 set with a guide sleeve when fitting the new seal. Dip the seal in engine oil before fitting and in case the old seal has scuffled the crankshaft place the new seal on the unscuffled part. Then, re-fit the crankshaft gear and timing belt. In the case of the rear oil seal, one should start with the removal of the flywheel or the driveplate. Providing an extractor tool, the seal could be renewed without opening the housing, in the absence of it one should unbolt and dismantle the housing, including the two sump bolts and remove the gasket. In cases where the sump gasket is destroyed in the process, the sump will have to be taken off in order to install another gasket which must only be done after installation of the housing. Then push the old seal out of the housing, then put the new seal in the engine oil and push it in the housing with some block of wood, or socket, till it is even, the open end of the seal being outwards. Lastly, install a new housing gasket and equally screw the bolts in a diagonal pattern then re-fit the flywheel or driveplate.
