1989 Audi 100 Intake Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: What precautions should be observed before working on the Intake Manifold components for multipoint petrol injection on 1989 Audi 100?
A: Before working on fuel system components, observe the necessary precautions. To remove the upper cover from the engine, proceed as needed. Next, take off the throttle body. For the ADR engine (Motronic 3.2), remove the fuel rail and injectors, and for additional working room, partially drain the cooling system and disconnect the expansion tank hose from the coolant pipe over the intake manifold. Disconnect the brake servo vacuum hose and the crankcase ventilation hose from the intake manifold, and disconnect the wiring from the intake air temperature sensor if applicable. For the AAR engine (KEIII Jetronic), remove the accelerator cable from the support on top of the upper section of the intake manifold, unbolting the support if necessary. On the ADR engine, disconnect the wiring and vacuum hoses from the variable choke valve on the intake manifold, then unbolt and remove the support brackets as applicable. For the AAR engine, unscrew the bolts and remove the upper section of the intake manifold from the lower section, recovering the gasket. Progressively unscrew and remove the intake manifold-to-cylinder head bolts, noting that the intake manifold on the ADR engine can be removed separately from the jet carrier if preferred. Lift the manifold away from the head and recover the gasket, keeping in mind that the bolts are not all of the same length. For the ADR engine, remove the jet carrier if necessary and recover the gasket, then unbolt and remove the variable choke valve components from the intake manifold. For the AAR engine, unbolt and remove the lower section of the intake manifold and recover the gasket. Refitting is a reversal of removal, ensuring to renew the gasket(s) and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
