Take off the top engine cover. The coolant must be drained after removing the cap from the coolant expansion tank with a fully cold engine. For the 180 hp engine (code: ATC, AWP), disconnect the connecting duct between the intercooler and intake manifold at the specified reference points. To extract the intake air duct, disconnect the hoses and clamps at the points indicated for the 225 hp engine (code: AMU, BEA). Use a clean rag to block off openings of the charge air circuit to avoid dirt ingress. Use a 17 mm open-end wrench to pivot the ribbed belt tensioner so that the ribbed belt is freed and can be removed. In case you want to reuse the ribbed belt, mark the running direction. Unbolt the coolant expansion tank and power steering reservoir and move them to one side retaining the hoses. Detach the upper and center protective covers of the toothed belt. Put the transmission in neutral or Park, then turn the crankshaft sprocket in a clockwise direction to align the mark on the camshaft sprocket with the mark on the upper rear timing belt guard to bring the camshaft to TDC for cylinder number #1. To relieve tension on the timing belt, a 5x55 mm threaded stud is screwed into the damper housing of the timing belt tensioner and a nut and washer is mounted on the other end. Position the hole in the tensioning damper housing on the hole in the pressure piston by turning the pressure piston, then tighten the nut until both holes are aligned and secure the pressure piston with a pin. Detach only the camshaft sprocket and leave in position on crankshaft sprocket. Cover the timing belt with cloth to prevent coolant damage when removing coolant pump.
