Audi TT Valve Cover

The Valve Cover on your Audi TT is designed to seal the top of the cylinder head. This holds engine oil over the valvetrain while preventing contaminants from entering the engine. This part, located above the cam and rockers, contains the oil pump in a sealed section. A gasket makes the seal between the cover and head. The cover itself is usually made from plastic or metal. Metal ones can be given either a painted or chrome finish. When made out of aluminum, it may be cast with decorative fins or identifying script. The Valve Cover on Audi TT engines also carries mountings for a PCV valve along with a breather or oil filler cap, thus providing two functions in one housing. If the gasket is sealed properly, oil will not leak onto the other parts of the engine. A gasket helps the Audi engine maintain the proper levels of oil. It helps prevent fluids from coming into contact with electrical components or hot surfaces. As time goes by, the gasket can harden, more so due to heat. Plastic versions of the cover, on the other hand, may crack allowing oil to leak out. So, if the seal is intact, it will ensure safe operation. In the event you need to take it off, the fasteners get unbolted and the cover may need gentle taps to free it off. The old gasket residue must be cleared off prior to installation. The Valve Cover ensures constant lubrication of the TT powerplant and dirt-free operation by maintaining a reliable enclosure. While simple in structure, the Valve Cover is an important component of the overall Audi lubrication system. Users who drive Audi cars prefer the Valve Cover because it is simple and seals well when torqued.

Audi TT Valve Cover Parts and Q&A

  • Q:
How to remove and reinstall the Valve Cover on Audi TT?
    A:
Remove the upper sound absorber panel from the engine. For the 225 hp engine (code: AMU, BEA), disconnect hoses and clamps to remove the intake air duct. Seal off openings of the charge air circuit with clean rags to prevent dirt entry. Remove mounting bolts and the vacuum reservoir from the top of the cylinder head cover, tilting it toward the rear to place it out of the way. Disconnect the harness connector for the turbocharger recirculation valve (N249) and remove the mounting bolts to position the bracket for the turbocharger recirculation valve out of the way. Remove the mounting bolts and rear bracket for the intake air duct. Loosen the clamp and remove the breather hose from the cylinder head cover. For the 225 hp engine, loosen the clamps, remove the bolt, and take out the vacuum line for the throttle valve control module. Disconnect the harness connectors and unbolt the ground wire for the ignition coils, prying out the retaining tab to position the ignition coil wiring harness out of the way. Unclip the upper timing belt cover, remove the bolt, and position the bracket out of the way. Remove the screws and heat insulation wrap, then take out the remaining coil mounting bolts and ignition coils, noting the cylinder numbers. Unbolt the cylinder head cover mounting bolts and remove the cylinder head cover. Before installing the cylinder head cover, apply drops of sealant at both corners of the cylinder head sealing surfaces and at the sides of the joints, using Audi sealant. Replace the cylinder head cover gasket if damaged, and tighten the cylinder head cover bolts in a diagonal sequence to the specified torque. The remaining installation follows the reverse order of removal.
