Audi TT Fuel Pump

Audi TT Fuel Pump supplies pressurized gasoline to the injectors from the rear tank, which allows the sporty coupe to start quickly and pull hard through the full range of gears. Constructed as an in-tank electric unit, the Fuel Pump remains cooled in fuel, and its sealed construction earns rock-solid reliability in all generations. It simply bolts directly into 1998 launch cars, the MK2 facelift, and the existing MK3; hence owners can have a tested part across the entire TT range. A robust float arm transmits the data on the level to the virtual cockpit, and the control circuit is activated only on demand, which saves battery and reduces fire hazards. The output is 40-60 psi, which works well with both the turbo fours and the VR6 without additional regulators, and that constant flow maintains clean combustion, improves mileage, and reduces emissions. When the engine fires slowly, one can hear the little pump's hum, which is a simple indicator that distinguishes between relay or wiring problems and a burned-out Fuel Pump. This new Fuel Pump is buried in the bottom of the tank, unlike older mechanical types that are mounted on top of the block, which reduces the center of gravity and releases engine bay capacity to cooler intake air. Recent Audi electronics are also applied by the brand, and they control pressure in milliseconds to deliver fuel finely depending on the throttle angle and the road conditions. That intelligent control operates with quattro to provide each Audi driver with the power to be sure even on icy mornings or hot track days. Each Audi pump is subjected to factory tests which subject the pump to harsh temperature swings so that the output remains constant when the tank is full or when it has almost emptied. Combined, the pump and sensors support efficiency standards that are Audi engineering, and such attention contributes to the TT being able to maintain its quick reaction and good fuel economy over the years.

Audi TT Fuel Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What components does the Fuel Pump delivery unit include, and how to remove and install it on Audi TT?
    A:
The fuel delivery unit includes the fuel pump and fuel level sensor. The procedure and illustrations apply to the primary fuel pump. All-wheel drive vehicles also have a secondary fuel pump at the left side of the fuel tank. Removal and installation are similar. For starters, disconnect the negative terminal battery ground strap or negative battery cable. Make sure you have the anti-theft radio code handy for later use. For coup models, the rear seat bottom should be removed, while for roadster, the rear trim should be removed. Fuel delivery a unit cover should also be removed. The black fuel supply line, blue fuel return line and the harness connector for the fuel delivery unit are disconnected by pressing the release buttons on the retaining collar. Using special tool 3217, loosen the retaining ring on the fuel delivery unit before removing it. Then, carefully pull the fuel delivery unit and seal out of the fuel tank opening, being careful not to bend the fuel gauge sensor. For all-wheel-drive vehicles, disconnected the connector from the harness in the fuel tank. Then press the release button of the hose coupling and disengage the retaining strap and wire from the fuel pump. Finally, empty the fuel from the delivery unit into a suitable container. Once the fuel delivery unit has been removed, install the connectors and strap in the reverse order and ensure that the strap engages with the side of the fuel pump. When refitting the fuel delivery unit, new seals must be used. The seals must be dry. The arrows on the unit and the fuel tank must be aligned. A light hand-tightening of the retaining ring is adequate. In the case of front-wheel drive vehicles, the same procedure may be followed, provided the seal is new and the fuel level sensor is not bent. Ultimately, using special tool 3217, tighten the fuel delivery unit retaining ring. Next, install the fuel supply line and return line without exchanging them. Verify that the lines are secured. Subsequently, reinstall the rear seat or trim. Finally, hook up the negative strap to the battery negative terminal.
  • Q: What requirements and steps are needed to diagnose Fuel Pump issues on Audi TT?
    A:
To check, the battery voltage must be a minimum of 11.5 Volts. The fuse #28 for the fuel pump should be ok. Furthermore, relay 4 also should be operational. The location of this relay is in the relay panel above the brake pedal. When the ignition switch is ON, a helper should listen for the fuel pump to briefly start running (it should make a whirring noise). If it runs quietly, it will be necessary to lift the rear seat bottom if in a coupe or take off the rear trim in a roadster so you can hear it. If the fuel pump does not run, remove the rear seat bottom or rear trim. The cover of the delivery unit for fuel must be removed harness connector disconnection. The outer terminals of the fuel delivery unit harness connector must be power with an led voltage tester. The ignition switch must be ON, and led must light for a brief period. The wiring should be traced for an open circuit if the LED does not light up. Should the LED show a momentary illumination, it will confirm the voltage supply to the fuel pump is all right, thereafter check the fuel pump for fuel pressure and delivery rate.
