  The fuel delivery unit includes the fuel pump and fuel level sensor. The procedure and illustrations apply to the primary fuel pump. All-wheel drive vehicles also have a secondary fuel pump at the left side of the fuel tank. Removal and installation are similar. For starters, disconnect the negative terminal battery ground strap or negative battery cable. Make sure you have the anti-theft radio code handy for later use. For coup models, the rear seat bottom should be removed, while for roadster, the rear trim should be removed. Fuel delivery a unit cover should also be removed. The black fuel supply line, blue fuel return line and the harness connector for the fuel delivery unit are disconnected by pressing the release buttons on the retaining collar. Using special tool 3217, loosen the retaining ring on the fuel delivery unit before removing it. Once the fuel delivery unit has been removed, install the connectors and strap in the reverse order and ensure that the strap engages with the side of the fuel pump. When refitting the fuel delivery unit, new seals must be used. The seals must be dry. The arrows on the unit and the fuel tank must be aligned. A light hand-tightening of the retaining ring is adequate. In the case of front-wheel drive vehicles, the same procedure may be followed, provided the seal is new and the fuel level sensor is not bent. Ultimately, using special tool 3217, tighten the fuel delivery unit retaining ring. Next, install the fuel supply line and return line without exchanging them. Verify that the lines are secured. Subsequently, reinstall the rear seat or trim. Finally, hook up the negative strap to the battery negative terminal.

  What requirements and steps are needed to diagnose Fuel Pump issues on Audi TT?

  To check, the battery voltage must be a minimum of 11.5 Volts. The fuse #28 for the fuel pump should be ok. Furthermore, relay 4 also should be operational. The location of this relay is in the relay panel above the brake pedal. When the ignition switch is ON, a helper should listen for the fuel pump to briefly start running (it should make a whirring noise). If it runs quietly, it will be necessary to lift the rear seat bottom if in a coupe or take off the rear trim in a roadster so you can hear it. If the fuel pump does not run, remove the rear seat bottom or rear trim. The cover of the delivery unit for fuel must be removed harness connector disconnection. The outer terminals of the fuel delivery unit harness connector must be power with an led voltage tester. The ignition switch must be ON, and led must light for a brief period. The wiring should be traced for an open circuit if the LED does not light up.
