Remove the hubcap and, for alloy wheels, pull off the center cap using the pulling hook from the vehicle tool kit. Loosen the 12-point drive axle nut a maximum of 90° with the vehicle standing on its wheels, ensuring the nut is accessible through the center of the wheel after removing the center cap. Apply the parking brake to prevent the rear drive axle from turning, then raise the car enough to relieve the load on the rear wheels and support it safely. Remove the 12-point axle nut from the drive axle and release the parking brake, then remove the wheel and raise the vehicle high enough for access underneath, supporting it safely. Unbolt the drive axle from the rear final drive flange, rotating the axle to access the remaining mounting bolts, and lower the inner part of the drive axle away from the rear final drive flange. Press the drive axle out of the wheel hub, using a press tool if necessary, and remove the drive axle, taking care to move the exhaust pipe with a pry bar if needed for clearance on the left side. Clean any paint residue or corrosion on the threads and splines of the outer joint, and before installing the drive axle, lightly lubricate the splines on the outer joint and in the wheel hub, the threads of the outer joint, and the contact surface and threads of the 12-point drive axle mounting nut. Begin installation by inserting the outer joint into the wheel hub splines and pulling it into contact with the wheel bearing. Position the inner joint of the drive axle onto the rear final drive flange and tighten the mounting bolts in a diagonal pattern, then install the wheel and tighten the lug bolts in a diagonal pattern. Lower the vehicle until the wheel touches the ground, then tighten the 12-point axle nut to 200 Nm and loosen it by a turn (180°). Use a torque angle wrench to tighten the 12-point axle nut to specification, or if unavailable, tighten it to 200 Nm, loosen by a turn, and then tighten to 50 Nm. Mark the edge of one of the 12-point nut tips with a line and make a second mark on the inside of the wheel hub, positioning it "2 tips" to the right of the first mark. Finally, tighten the 12-point axle nut until the two marks align and install the center cap on the wheel.
