Take off the upper engine cover. For engines that have spark plugs wires, it is recommended to pull up the spark plug wire ends off the spark plugs with a special plastic puller stored underneath the cylinder head plastic cover. To remove the coils on the spark plugs of engines with coils on top of spark plugs, install tool T40039 on the uppermost thick rib of each coil and pull the coils off. If you do not have the special coil removal tool, you can use two screwdrivers to carefully pry each coil off the spark plug. Remove the harness connectors and pull out all the connectors of the ignition coils at the same time, then pull the coils out of the spark plug holes and set them aside. Utilize a 16-mm or 5/8-inch spark plug socket to uninstall and reinstall spark plugs. For engines with spark plug wires, reconnect them at the spark plugs by pushing them down firmly to connect positively. For engines with coils-over-plug designs, loosely insert the ignition coils into the spark plug ports. Align the ignition coils to the connectors and simultaneously connect all connectors to the ignition coils ensuring that the coils are aligned to the recesses in the cylinder head cover. Manually push the ignition coils onto the spark plugs and install the upper engine cover.
