Remove the hubcap and, for alloy wheels, pull off the center cap using the pulling hook from the vehicle tools. With the vehicle on its wheels, loosen the outer CV joint bolt a maximum of 90° and then raise the car, supporting it safely. Remove the wheel and thread in all five wheel bolts again. With an assistant operating the brake, remove the outer CV bolt and unscrew the two drive axle bolts from the transmission flange. Pull the ABS wheel speed sensor harness out of the bracket on the brake caliper and slightly pull the sensor out of the wheel bearing housing. Remove the nut on the front and rear upper control arm pinch bolt and then remove the pinch bolt. Release the upper front and rear control arm outer ends from the wheel bearing carrier and swing the wheel bearing carrier away from the suspension strut. Work the outer CV joint out of the wheel bearing hub and remove the drive axle, repairing or replacing it as necessary. When installing, insert the outer CV joint into the wheel bearing hub first, then insert the upper control arm ball joints into the wheel bearing housing and press down as far as possible. Install a new pinch bolt and tighten the nut. Bolt the drive axle to the transmission flange, press the ABS wheel speed sensor into the wheel bearing housing, and insert the harness into the bracket on the brake caliper. With an assistant operating the brake, tighten the outer CV joint bolt to the initial tightening torque, mount the wheel, and tighten. Finally, tighten the bolt for the drive axle to the final tightening torque with the vehicle standing on its wheels.
