Audi A6 ABS Sensor

The Audi A6 ABS Sensor keeps track of the speed at which each wheel rotates, assisting the brakes to maintain a controlled braking action through the anti-lock braking system. The Audi ABS Sensor is installed adjacent to a gear-tooth ring that is affixed to the wheel hub, axle shaft, or differential ring gear. It detects each tooth and transforms movement into voltage that corresponds to wheel speed. The ABS control module receives this signal. The module reduces hydraulic pressure to the affected wheel when braking causes one wheel to slow down more than others to prevent lockup while maintaining steering ability. There are two sensing methods. One arrangement of a magnet with a Hall effect element generates a pulse train due to shifts in the magnetic field produced by the rotation. In the other arrangement, a toothed wheel and an electromagnetic coil are applied to induce alternating voltage, whereby the change of magnetic flux takes place. Both output continuous data but lose accuracy at very low speed. This is because the rotation is slower and the magnetic fluctuation weaker.
