How to disconnect and remove the alternator on Audi A4?

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and remove the engine cover. For four-cylinder 1.8L models, unscrew the coolant reservoir cap, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, remove the engine under-covers, remove the clip for the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical lead, place a drain pan under the ECT sensor, unscrew the sensor to allow coolant to drain, disconnect the upper radiator hose from the coolant pipe, and remove the radiator fan control module mounting fastener to take out the module. For all four-cylinder models, remove the drivebelt, disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator, and remove the two upper and two lower alternator mounting fasteners to take out the alternator, repositioning it to access the electrical connectors on the backside.
