Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and remove the engine cover. For four-cylinder 1.8L models, unscrew the coolant reservoir cap, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, remove the engine under-covers, remove the clip for the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical lead, place a drain pan under the ECT sensor, unscrew the sensor to allow coolant to drain, disconnect the upper radiator hose from the coolant pipe, and remove the radiator fan control module mounting fastener to take out the module. For all four-cylinder models, remove the drivebelt, disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator, and remove the two upper and two lower alternator mounting fasteners to take out the alternator, repositioning it to access the electrical connectors on the backside. For V6 3.0L models, remove the front engine cover, drivebelt, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, remove the engine under-covers, remove the cable ties securing the starter cable harness guide, disengage the harness, remove the fastener for the bracket securing the automatic transmission fluid lines on models with automatic transmission, unclip the air conditioning line from the bracket on the oil pan, disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator, and remove the alternator mounting fasteners. For 3.2L V6 models, remove the front engine cover, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, remove the engine under-covers, place the radiator support panel in the service position, remove the drivebelt, remove the two upper and two lower alternator mounting fasteners, reposition the alternator to access the electrical connectors on the backside, disconnect the electrical connectors, and remove the alternator. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the alternator mounting fasteners are tightened securely, reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery, refill the cooling system if working on a 1.8L four-cylinder model, and check the charging voltage to verify the alternator is operating correctly.
