- Q: How to replace the water pump on Audi A3?A:For 1.6 litre DOHC petrol engines, begin by draining the cooling system. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts before removing the auxiliary drivebelt, then take off the drivebelt. Unscrew the bolts to detach the pulley from the water pump, followed by unscrewing the mounting bolts to remove the water pump from the cylinder block. During refitting, clean the mating surfaces thoroughly and use a suitable sealant if the original pump is being reused, then refill the cooling system. For 1.6 litre SOHC and 2.0 litre petrol engines, drain the cooling system and remove the camshaft timing belt, ensuring the lower part of the timing belt guard remains in place and the timing belt is covered to protect it from coolant. Remove the securing bolts and the rear timing belt guard, then withdraw the water pump from the engine block, recovering the O-ring seal. If the pump is faulty, it must be replaced.
