Jack up the front or rear of the car and support it on axle stands before removing the roadwheel. Rotate the disc and examine it for deep scoring or grooving; while light scoring is normal, excessive damage requires the disc to be removed and renewed or reground within specified limits by a suitably-equipped engineering works. To ensure even braking, both front or both rear brake discs should be renewed or reground simultaneously. Remove the front or rear brake calliper and bracket without disconnecting the hydraulic hose, suspending the calliper by wire from the coil spring to avoid straining the hose. After removing the brake pads, use a micrometer in several positions to check the disc thickness; if it is worn down to the specified minimum thickness, both front or both rear discs should be renewed or reground together. Remove the countersunk cross-head screw and withdraw the brake disc from the hub. Refitting is a reversal of removal, ensuring that the mating faces of the hub and disc are clean.
