The pump can be the cast iron one or the light alloy type, where the latter one does not provide the opportunity to replace the oil seal or bearing. In order to install and extract the pump, loosening the adjustment and tensioning nuts and removing the drivebelt is necessary. Install a container to receive pump drainage and also unscrew the union nut or bolt of the hydraulics lines making sure not to bend the line of the union nut but unscrew the pump with the line when removing it. Unscrew the pivot bolt and then extract the pump and reverse procedure is the same making sure that the drivebelt is tight. To service, loosen the nut and pull out the pulley off the shaft, loosen the Woodruff key and bearing circlip, then remove the bearing and shaft. Temporarily refit the pulley nut, place it in a soft-jawed vice and beat it out of the bearing and shaft with a mallet. To eliminate the seal, first remove the bearing and shaft, remove the circlip and an expanding puller is used on the seal. Apply and press the grease multi-purpose between the sealing lips of the new seal, using a metal tube, to drive it to its seat pointing out the lettering, and replace the circlip. To refit the bearing and shaft, fit the splines of the shaft and rotor together, push the bearing towards the housing with a metal tube on the outer race and refit the circlip and then the Woodruff key, pulley and nut, with the mark on the pulley going forward where needed. In case intermittent power steering failure, the pressure and flow limiting valve should be inspected (a suitable container should be placed under the pump, unscrew the plug, and remove the washer, spring and valve, checking them against damage, and making sure that the drillings of the valve are free). In case a new valve is installed, it has to be of the right tolerance group, and a new washer must always be installed when reassembling. To precisely adjust the tension in the drivebelt, loosen the adjusting nut fitting the pump bracket, and turn the tensioning nut until the belt can be depressed about 10.0 mm (0.4 in) under strong thumb pressure between crankshaft and pump pulleys and then tighten the adjusting nut when the tension is appropriate.
