Remove the anti-roll bar and the relevant roadwheel. Unscrew and take out the suspension balljoint clamp bolt, ensuring its head faces forward. Tap the wishbone downward to detach the balljoint from the strut. Unscrew and remove the pivot bolts from the subframe, noting the position of their heads, then lower the wishbone and withdraw it. Check the balljoint for excessive wear and inspect the pivot bushes for deterioration, along with examining the wishbone for damage and distortion; if needed, renew the balljoint and bushes. To renew the balljoint, outline its exact position on the wishbone, as the holes are elongated for camber adjustment. Unscrew the nuts and remove the balljoint and clamp plate, then fit the new balljoint in the outlined position and tighten the nuts. For renewing the pivot bushes, use a long bolt with a metal tube and washers to pull each bush from the wishbone eyes, and fit the new bushes using the same method after dipping them in soapy water. Refitting the wishbone is the reverse of removal, but delay tightening the pivot bolts until the car's weight is on the suspension. When refitting the anti-roll bar, have the front wheel camber angle checked and adjusted if necessary by an Audi dealer.
